Plastic Pollution is spiralling out of control. Join CIG in raising awareness.

Plastics are suffocating our natural environment and killing our marine life in massive numbers every single day and we, as human beings, are responsible for it. Our lives are becoming more and more centred around a convenient and disposable society – we buy a bottle of water in a plastic bottle and throw it away 10 minutes later not realising that that same bottle will still exist in 500 years’ time and will have contributed to a trail of destruction during that time.

Clover Imaging Group (CIG) is passionate about environmental protection and is at the very heart of everything we do. Remanufacturing at a very basic level, means reusing the original plastic material and keeping it out of landfills.

Therefore, we are launching an awareness campaign – Be Part of the Change – to highlight the enormity and gravity of this issue and to encourage you to be more mindful when buying products that have plastic packaging or plastic components.

We are asking you to help us spread this important message – please follow our LinkedIn and Twitter pages and share these shocking facts about the scope of plastic pollution during this 4-week campaign:

BE PART OF THE CHANGE

FACT #1: 8.3 BILLION tonnes of plastic have been produced so far globally1. Of this, 6.3 BILLION tonnes of waste have been generated1.

FACT #2: Just 9% of total global plastic waste has been recycled and 12% incinerated1. The remaining 79% of plastic waste has built up in landfills & in our natural environment1.

FACT #3: Landfills are among the biggest contributors to soil pollution. Approx. 80% of the items buried in landfills could be recycled2

FACT #4: Plastic is made from oil. The plastics industry uses approx. 8% of total oil production. This equals the amount of oil used by the global aviation industry. This is expected by increase to 20% by 20503.

FACT #5: Virtually every piece of plastic that has ever been made still exists in some shape or another, with the exception of the tiny percentage incinerated1.

FACT #6: 8 MILLION TONS of plastic ends up in our oceans each year1.
That’s enough plastic waste to cover every foot of coastline around the world with FIVE full rubbish bags of plastic…compounding every year1 This will increase to 10 bags full of plastic per foot of coastline by 20251

FACT #7: ONE MILLION plastic bottles are bought EVERY MINUTE around the world4.
This will increase to over half a TRILLION by 20214. Less than half of those bottles are recycled4.

FACT #8: More than 400 MILLION empty ink and toner cartridges are thrown out every year.
The majority end up in landfills and take 450-1,000 years to decompose. Once in landfill, Volatile organic compounds and heavy metals present in toner cartridges will over time pollute the soil and water.

FACT #9: If plastic production isn’t curbed, plastic pollution will outweigh fish pound for pound by 20505.

FACT #10: Our marine life is suffering slow and painful deaths due to plastic pollution.
Plastic pollution affects at least 700 marine species, and at least 100 MILLION marine mammals are killed each year from plastic pollution6.
